Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Ministry of Social Affairs to explore developing laws and legal documents to protect homeless people.

In the closing ceremony of the meeting to review the work of 2023 and the direction of work in 2024 of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation on the morning of February 6, 2024, Prime Minister said that the preparation of the law to support homeless people must also be linked to social assistance programs in the family package, adjust and build social shelters in the capital, provinces and regions to receive homeless people and victims to stay temporarily, see health care, counseling, training advice before integration to live with family and community.

The Prime Minister also urged the Ministry of Social Affairs to study social assistance programs for poor families, orphans, abandoned children, the elderly, the homeless, the disabled, the homeless and drug addicts.

He further instructed the Ministry of Social Affairs to cooperate with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to promote the operation and sustainability of senior citizens' associations throughout the country.

The Ministry of Social Affairs must strengthen and expand the capacity of the Center for Education, Care, Rehabilitation and Vocational Training and Rehabilitation of Drug Victims.

The Ministry of Social Affairs must also cooperate with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Public Works to study the feasibility of establishing additional regional and provincial temporary centers to address the increase in drug victims and to educate them to become good citizens.

At the same time, PM advised the Ministry of Social Affairs to continue to encourage the private sector, civil society organizations to accept people with disabilities to work.
